Retora Yogyakarta

DI Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta holds two worlds that rarely meet elsewhere. On the campus side, UGM, UII, UAJY, UNY, and UMY keep thesis defences and departmental seminars running all year. On the ceremonial side, receptions in the Ngayogyakarta palace style follow a long sequence that asks for a Pranatacara working in formal Javanese krama inggil.

Yogyakarta Event Scene

  • A city with a crowded defence calendar

UGM, UII, UAJY, UNY, and UMY hold thesis defences and departmental seminars regularly, so speaking in front of examiners is something that returns every semester.

  • Ceremonial receptions in the Ngayogyakarta style

The sequence runs long, from Nyantri and Siraman through Panggih to the procession. The Pranatacara holds that order in formal Javanese krama inggil, and a slip in the sequence is felt immediately.

  • Javanese cultural events

Grebeg, sekaten, and gatherings of shadow puppet practitioners run regularly here, with hosts working in formal Javanese throughout.

  • Receptions blending modern and ceremonial

Many couples choose a solemn contract ceremony and then a reception with ceremonial Javanese touches. The host moves between two registers in a single day.

What Is

Retora Class in Yogyakarta

Retora public speaking and MC classes in Yogyakarta are open to students, anyone wanting to go deeper into Pranatacara in the Yogya style, and hosts of cultural events and blended receptions. The contexts used most here: campus defences, krama inggil Pranatacara, and Javanese cultural events.

Method

Confidence-Craft-Command in Yogyakarta Context

The Confidence-Craft-Command method adapts to Yogya. On the Craft side, you practise a scholarly presentation frame for a thesis defence and a story that lands on a cultural stage. On the Command side, you practise holding a long Pranatacara sequence, from Nyantri through to the procession, with the krama inggil register intact.

Readiness

Are You Ready to Learn in Yogyakarta?

You are ready to start if you are preparing a defence and want to feel steadier in front of examiners, if you want to go deeper into Pranatacara in the Yogya style, or if you are beginning to host cultural events and blended receptions.

Comparison

Retora Yogyakarta vs Other Options

Learning by helping at event after event builds hours, and the wrong habits settle in alongside them because nobody is correcting you. General classes rarely touch Pranatacara at all. Retora gives you five levels with a recording of every session, so what needs changing surfaces early.

Why Retora Here

Why Retora in Yogyakarta

  1. 01

    Practice for thesis defences

The Fundamental level works the mental foundation through 4-4-4 breathing and gradual exposure, from three examiners up to a seminar of dozens. Only after that does the work move to answering questions that press.

  2. 02

The Pranatacara sequence in the Yogya style

What you practise is holding a long sequence, writing the linking lines between segments, and recovering tempo when the event runs late. The terminology and the ceremony itself stay something you deepen with local custodians of the tradition.

  3. 03

    Formal Javanese krama inggil

This module covers the etiquette and the word choices for formal ceremonial receptions and cultural events, from the terms used most often through to formal greetings for elders.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Retora Yogyakarta

What is the difference between Yogya and Solo Pranatacara?
Both use krama inggil, and what differs is the choice of terms and the sequence of the ceremony. The Yogya style uses terminology particular to Ngayogyakarta and has the Nyantri stage that Solo does not. The Retora module covers that difference so you do not confuse the two when hosting either.
Is it suitable for a student who gets nervous at defences?
Very much so, and that is exactly the starting point. The Fundamental level focuses on the mental foundation with 4-4-4 breathing and gradual exposure, from three examiners up to a seminar audience of dozens. The pressure is raised slowly, so by the day of your defence the situation already feels familiar.
Is Javanese krama inggil hard to learn?
It takes time, and it can be done in stages. The module starts from the terms a Pranatacara must know, such as kula, panjenengan, and sowan, then formal greetings for elders, and only then the full sequence. From nothing, a reasonable span is three to six months with regular practice.
